Hey guys, so as the end of the semester rapidly approaches and we can almost touch winter break I figured I would post some memes for you all during this stressful point of the year. I find these pretty relatable to us, the first one I find very funny because I too always complain about my lack of money while I’m at school and end up eating stale toast for dinner and yet here I am venting about these struggles via iPhone 6 or a Macbook Pro. The next one I especially relate to because this semester I successfully lasted the whole duration without purchasing a single textbook because lets be honest, who wants to spend $100 per textbook? The last one I find funny because there’s so much procrastination that goes on throughout the semester that we do not really think about until all of a sudden it’s a week until the end of the semester and our grades are 10 points lower  than desired because of those assignments that seem innocent to skip at the time but have secretly added up to a nuclear missile to your final grade so we franticly run around trying to put out the flames. As mentioned in Davidson’s article “The Language of Internet Memes” the memes I have selected work in a “bottom-up” approach meaning the images in these memes were the origin then from there sprout into numerous amounts of memes and different funny ideas unlike most information which goes from top down, meaning the final product is very finite and specific (Davidson). My first meme depicts the behavior of college freshmen being naive still and lacking knowledge of their respective University and not really knowing how to survive in college in general. The origin of this photo is from a stock photo website used by companies promoting things like freshmen to start getting their finances at a young age and also promoting mental health at school which transformed into its original joke poking fun at Collegiate Frisbee where it then took off (Knowyourmeme.com). This particular manifestation of the photo depicts the kid not realizing he actually has money since he can afford the iPad he wrote it on but the meme ranges from things like this to poking fun at freshmen not knowing how to drinking responsibly and dying at parties. The next photo describes college seniors and their lack of caring due to “senioritis”.  The origin of this meme comes from an image of a stock photo website, Photos.com, where the photo is simply called “Young Man Drinking Beer at an Outdoor Pub” where it then turned into a meme on November 7th, 2011 (Knowyourmeme.com). This manifestation depicts him not caring to buy textbooks for his classes but the meme itself ranges from not wanting to show up for class to showing up to a class drunk. The last photo depicts a man trying putting out a literal fire to metaphorically save his grades. The photo is part of a series of memes that talk about trying to salvage grades which started October 26, 2017 on Twitter where it has become one of college students favorite memes (Knowyourmeme.com). This photo is part of a series of trying to save your grades memes so it is similar to all of the other memes in this series. I chose these specific manifestations of the image due to poking fun at not wanting to spend money and struggling at the end of the semester so I hope you all enjoy these memes as much as I have.
